Now Entering a State of Suspended Animation

The Kendal Companion and this blog have entered a state of suspended animation. But life remains!

Kendal, Ohio History Wiki

Files here, files there. JPEGs, PDFs, snips and links and who-knows-what. Things were getting out of hand.

Enter the wiki – kendalohio.com’s new “resource dump.” The goal is to create a hyperlinked repository of research data, images and resources on Kendal’s people places and things.

The first priority is to load information related to lots on Kendal’s original town plat and other historic sites. This is in preparation for a presentation, tour and booklet scheduled for September 2012.

I think of the new wiki as cross-referenced filing system anyone can paw through anytime and anywhere. I hope you find it interesting and useful.

Founding Day, Park Designation in the Inde

Three nice bits about Kendal in the Independent today: 1) an article about Founding Day 2) a Kendal timeline and 3) a piece about the effort to achieve historic property status for Union Square, Charity Square and Memorial Park. Well done. Link.

Two corrections need to be mentioned, however. Mayhew Folger did not operate a tavern on State Street, Edward Nelson did. And Charity Square is on Wales Road (800 block) not 11th Street. There is a little park on 11th known as “Charity Rotch Park.” It designates the site of the Charity School of Kendal, which after its closure, became the Charity Rotch subdivision in the 1920s.
